It’s my belief that to best relate to kids you have to appreciate the uncertainties, doubts, frustrations, and fears of your own adolescence. I've been told I have a special gift for connecting with and motivating young people which is likely due to my own troubled youth and ADD. I see a part of me in every child I support and this insight allows me to reach them on a deeper level. I believe the best outcomes in education come as a result of mutual trust, respect, and understanding between teacher and student. I'm particularly experienced working with distracted, unmotivated, insecure, and/or troubled youth. I tutored at the Boys & Girls Club, have been mentoring/tutoring three inner-city boys for 13 years, and I'm a licensed foster parent in Connecticut. In addition, I frequently offer a summer video workshop for children in under-served communities in which they produce short, dramatic films. I write for a living, principally for documentary, marketing, and corporate video production. I spent five years on the communications staff at JCPenney headquarters and another five at IBM. Subsequently, I've run my own media business for over 20 years. Awards include five CINE Golden Eagles and Best Feature Length Documentary at the NY Festival. I created two cyber-bullying educational videos, one for children and one for parents, as well as a teacher's guide. The YouTube promo went viral with over 1.5 million viewers. In addition, I'm a contributing writer for all the Hearst newspapers in Fairfield County. You can see many examples of my video and newspaper work on the Web.
